Ah yes, an emotional title for a post but definitely not anything close to that. I'm going to cover facts that people
might not know about the
service industry. Whatever it may be, from
Retail to
Food & Beverage, as long as you stand behind a counter and you have to greet an unknown stranger everyday with a smile, then you would be considered to be in this line of industry. For God's sake, if you're working and you don't know in what line you're working in, you might as well
shoot yourself in the head with the uniform on.
But before we go into an issue which might get me killed for my sincere honesty, check out
Lordi if you have the time. Its the famous monster faced band which won the band competition. I think they are from Finland. You know, those ugly faced people singing rock songs. Do check them out if you're in need of a distressing song. Pretty old songs but its still tolerable and catchy enough. Nothing near unbearable drum beats and guitar riffs. More to just listen and sing along kind of rock songs. Back to the topic of service.
So what exactly is
service? By using the
walking dictionary terminology again, which always sounds wrong, service basically means serving people. Err, I think you better stick to the proper terms certified by established dictionaries, but anyways, you do get the meaning of it right? If not,
shoot yourself again in the head but this time with a bloody dictionary in your hand.
So its a simple cycle. Lets try to see this as a bigger picture. You're there to get paid, that was your motive, initially. No one wants to work cause they want to serve others. You might as well be a maid. The guest, as what they call customers now, are there to spend. So, you have to change your initially motive. Now, you're there because the guest are there. If you're not there, hell, why should they spend their money. The only answer, because no one is serving them. Now, do you see my point? Even people working in the hawker center are going to be trained for service excellence.
Why are people trained to wear plastic mask? Yes, its true you can train people to become the best servers in the world, but what will happen after they take off their uniforms and clock out from work. It will be back to square one. Out of 10 people, maybe only one is passionate about serving people. That's because, we live in a society where we expect to be served for the cost we pay. Expenses are so high now, every cent you spend is counted. If you notice, people who pay peanuts are the people who make the most noise compared to people who have so many peanuts and don't know what to do with it. Simple theory, simple life.
Actually, I don't know whats the point I'm trying to get over because I lost my chain of thoughts so we will have to decipher for ourselves what it means all together. At the end of the day, its how sincerely you smile that makes the difference. Do you get it now, cause I don't get it myself.
Grrr.... We shall talk about the four letter word tomorrow.
